Ranveer Singh's ‘83’ missed half century in the opening weekend

Sooryavanshi and 83 were the two films that were most expected when the release dates of Bollywood films started being announced soon after the theaters were allowed to open in Maharashtra on October 22. Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi did its duty and gave a bouquet of consolation to the beleaguered box office with great collections.

Now the ball is in Ranveer Singh's court. However, Ranveer Singh's film 83, which was a small part of Sooryavanshi's success, could not do as well as expected from the film's promotions, critics' ratings and social media claims in the opening weekend. In the opening weekend, Ranveer missed out on hitting a half-century on the box office pitch.

Sooryavanshi and 83 are both Reliance Entertainment films. Amidst all the temptations of OTT platforms, the patience and courage of the producers will have to be praised to take these films to the theatres. Released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages along with Hindi at 3741 screens at 83 domestic box office on 24 December (Friday), the film took the opening of 12.64 crores. On the second day on Saturday, the film collected 16.95 crores, while on Sunday the film collected 17.41 crores, taking the opening weekend collection to 47 crores.

Experts believe that considering the scale, budget and wait of the film, this opening will be considered average, as a little more than 83 was expected. If you compare with Sooryavanshi itself, the film had collected 77 crores in the opening weekend in three days, while the half century was rooted in two days. However, if we talk about the challenges, then things are a bit difficult in front of 83, as the film is facing Pushpa the Rise and Spiderman No Way Home in theatres.

Both these films are in their second week of release and are pulling in the audience. It is expected that despite all the troubles, 83 will start its journey towards century by completing half century today (Monday).

Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 is based on the Indian cricket team's first World Cup victory in 1983. Ranveer Singh played the role of the then captain Kapil Dev in the film. At the same time, Deepika Padukone is in the role of Romi Dev and is also the co-producer of the film. The characters of legend players in the film have been played by many great actors.
